Validity, renewal and documents
1. Is a Certisign certificate issued outside Brazil just as valid?
It is. The certificate is issued by the Certisign CA within the ICP-Brasil chain, and the law makes no distinction about where the holder was at validation time. The Revenue, the courts, notaries and commercial registries see the same Root CA → Certisign CA chain, whether you are in Brisbane or in Belo Horizonte.
2. Can I renew from abroad, without going back?
You can. Renewal requires a fresh identity check, and that can be done by video call with our RA. If the previous certificate has already expired, the name changes — it becomes a new issuance — but the route is the same. Details are in renewing a digital certificate without returning to Brazil.
3. Which document do I need to have out here?
A valid Brazilian photo ID — Brazilian passport, RG or CNH — and a CPF in regular status. The residence card of the country you live in is no substitute, however official it may be.
4. I am a foreigner with a CPF. Can I hold a Certisign certificate?
You can, with a document ICP-Brasil accepts for foreigners and a regular CPF. Cases of spouses, heirs and foreign investors are detailed in digital certificate for foreigners.
Where the certificate is used
5. Does it work for the Revenue's e-CAC?
It does, and it is the entry route that does not depend on gov.br's facial validation. With the e-CPF you log into e-CAC, consult, file, set up instalments and grant an electronic power of attorney to your accountant.
6. Does it work for INSS and Meu INSS?
Meu INSS login goes through gov.br, and the ICP-Brasil certificate raises the account to gold level without facial recognition. That lets you check contribution time, file requests and track benefits from abroad.
7. Does it work for the commercial registry and the company?
Yes. With the e-CPF you sign amendments and minutes as a partner; with the e-CNPJ, in the legal representative's name, the company files obligations and signs contracts. An attorney-in-fact cannot hold the e-CNPJ.
8. Can I sign deeds and public powers of attorney from here?
Through e-Notariado, yes: the notary draws up the act by video call and you sign with the e-CPF. For acts such as property transfers, Law 14.063/2020 requires the qualified signature — exactly the one an ICP-Brasil certificate provides.
Loss, security and the company
9. I lost the token in the move. Can it be recovered?
There is no recovery: the private key was on the token. The right course is to revoke the certificate with the CA and issue a new one, with fresh validation. The same applies to a forgotten password or a wiped computer with the A1 on it.
10. Does the RA keep my password?
Never. The password is created by you at installation or activation. No legitimate RA asks for the PIN — and anyone who does should be refused.
11. My company is in Brazil and I am the director. Is the e-CNPJ issued in my name?
It is, provided you appear as legal representative in the QSA or the articles and the CNPJ is active. The accountant can operate under an electronic power of attorney on e-CAC instead of using your certificate.
12. How do I choose between A1 and A3 while living abroad?
A1 is a file valid for 1 year, ideal for someone using a fixed computer. Cloud A3 is valid for up to 3 years and signs from the phone, which suits people who travel. A physical token requires shipping; the cloud does not.
Scenario: a physiotherapist in Brisbane and the token left in the container
Real case
Illustrative scenario. A Brazilian physiotherapist who moved to Brisbane needs to request her contribution-time statement on Meu INSS and, at the same time, file an overdue annual tax return. The token with her A3 e-CPF is in a moving box that has not arrived yet. She contacts us on WhatsApp, revokes the old certificate on our guidance, attends the validation video call at 8 am Brisbane time and receives a new cloud e-CPF. She logs into gov.br with the certificate, gains gold level, files the request on Meu INSS and submits the return through e-CAC that same week. — When the token goes missing, the route is revoke and reissue — and that can be done from any country
Before you decide
“Does the Australian time zone get in the way?”
No. We book the video call in your morning, which is London's night; the registration agent is reserved for the agreed slot.
“I only have the old paper RG”
If it is legible and within the accepted validity, it works. Otherwise use your Brazilian passport or CNH; only one of the three needs to be in order.
“What if I lose the certificate again?”
With cloud A3 the key sits in a protected environment and does not vanish with your luggage. Even so, loss or a forgotten password is solved by a new issuance, never by recovery.
“Does the cost beat a trip?”
An Australia–Brazil ticket plus the days lost costs several times the certificate. Video validation removes that expense.
Transparent pricing
That is the starting point for an e-CPF issued by the Certisign CA with video validation. The e-CNPJ and A3 media have their own amounts.
