First things first: what this page is and is not
Valid is a Certificate Authority accredited by ITI, as are Certisign and others. Certificado Digital Global has no affiliation with Valid; this page is informational. We do not describe Valid's services, prices or procedures here — for those, contact the CA or RA of your choice. What follows applies to any ICP-Brasil CA, because the rule that matters lives in the chain of trust, not in the brand.
Renew with the current CA or issue anew from abroad?
This is the real decision facing people who reach us after searching for "Valid digital certificate abroad". There is no cross-renewal between Certificate Authorities: a certificate is only ever renewed by the CA that issued it. What does exist is the issuance of a new certificate, which simply takes the place of the old one. Both routes are legitimate; the table helps you choose.

Illustrative scenario: the engineering firm in Curitiba and the partner in Zurich
Real case
Illustrative scenario. An engineering design firm in Curitiba has two partners; the sole managing partner accepts a position in Zurich and moves with his family. The accounting firm had always renewed the company's e-CNPJ with a CA other than Certisign, through a process that, that year, could not be completed with the holder outside the country. The accountant needed the certificate to file the following month's DCTFWeb and eSocial. The answer was to issue a new e-CNPJ: the partner sent his documents over WhatsApp, completed the video validation in a slot between the end of the Swiss working day and mid-afternoon in Curitiba, and installed the A1 on his computer. The electronic powers of attorney the firm already held on e-CAC stayed valid, because they had never been tied to the old certificate. — A frequent combination: an accountant loyal to one CA in Brazil, a managing partner transferred abroad
Transition checklist for a new e-CNPJ
- Do not revoke the old certificate before the new one is installed. Revocation is not required to issue another; if the current one is still valid it can stay active until expiry, and you revoke later, if you wish, through the issuing CA.
- Confirm who the legal representative is in the QSA. The e-CNPJ holder must be the managing partner named in the articles of association and in the Revenue's records; an attorney-in-fact cannot be the holder.
- Check the status of the CNPJ and of the manager's CPF. Both must be in good standing; registry issues block issuance at any CA.
- Gather the documents. The manager's Brazilian passport, RG or CNH, plus the corporate act proving representation.
- Tell the accountant the issuance date. They will swap the certificate in the systems that use the company's e-CNPJ (commercial registry portals, banks, NF-e where applicable).
- Hand the new certificate's password to no one. Whoever needs to act for the company receives a power of attorney; the certificate stays with the holder.
Before deciding: what usually holds the partner abroad back
"Will I lose the company's history?"
No. Returns, powers of attorney and registrations sit in the Revenue's and the registry's systems, linked to the CNPJ. The certificate is only the key for access and signing — and a new key opens the same doors.
"Will the time difference make the video impossible?"
Validation is booked at a time agreed with you. Between Europe and Brazil working hours overlap almost every day; for Asia and Oceania we find early-morning or end-of-day windows.
"My RG has expired."
Use a valid Brazilian passport or CNH. The document must be within its validity and legible on camera; the CPF must be in good standing.
"Wouldn't it be cheaper to wait for my next trip?"
Weigh the certificate's cost against a filing not transmitted or a signature postponed for months. For most companies, issuing now comes out ahead.
Transparent pricing
The amount covers video validation and issuance of the e-CNPJ by the Certisign CA. Nothing is charged for migrating: there is no "CA switch" fee, because legally this is a new certificate, not a transfer.
The final price varies with the choice between A1 and A3 and the validity period contracted; the exact quote is given in writing on WhatsApp.
