Already hold a Serasa certificate? Three situations
Valid and working
Keep using it until it expires. To renew, go to the issuing CA or one of its RAs; renewal always happens within the same CA. If you prefer, you can issue a new one with us — the new certificate takes over and the old one can simply lapse.
Expired
An expired certificate cannot be renewed: what exists is a new issuance, with a fresh identity validation. In that situation the previous CA no longer matters; you freely choose where to issue, and our RA validates by video from any country.
Lost or password forgotten
Revoke it with the issuing CA to prevent misuse and issue a new one. The electronic powers of attorney you granted on e-CAC remain valid, because they are linked to your CPF, not to the certificate.
Unsure which one you had
Open the file or the token and look at the certification path: the issuing CA's name appears right below the Root CA. That tells you whom to ask for renewal, if it is still valid.
Scenario: a teacher in Hanoi and the certificate that expired quietly
Real case
Illustrative scenario. A Brazilian English teacher has lived in Hanoi for three years and always filed his income tax with a Serasa A1 e-CPF issued back when he lived in Fortaleza. In April, trying to sign the return, he discovers the certificate expired months earlier. gov.br's facial validation does not recognise his face in the biometric database, and renewal would require a new identity check. He finds us while searching “Serasa digital certificate abroad”, understands he needs a new issuance — not a renewal — and attends the validation video call at 8 pm Hanoi time with his Brazilian passport. He receives an e-CPF issued by the Certisign CA, logs into e-CAC and files the return without changing anything in his Revenue records. — An expired certificate cannot be renewed anywhere; a new one is issued — and that can be done from where you are
Before you decide
“Will switching CAs cause trouble with the Revenue?”
No. The systems read the CPF or CNPJ inside the certificate, not the CA's brand. Powers of attorney and registrations stay as they are.
“Must I revoke the old one before issuing the new?”
If it is still valid, revoking is optional; if you lost access, revoke for safety. Two valid certificates on the same CPF can coexist.
“My Brazilian ID expired while in Vietnam”
Validation requires a Brazilian passport, RG or CNH within validity. If all three have expired, renew the passport at the consulate first; issuance then proceeds.
“Isn't it cheaper to wait for my next trip?”
Waiting means missing Revenue deadlines and being unable to sign meanwhile. Video validation costs less than a flight and fits your schedule.
