The two sides, side by side
Needs a certificate?
Yes: their own e-CPF, to sign the power of attorney and grant the Revenue's electronic one. · Yes: their own e-CPF, under their CPF, to log into systems and sign as representative.
What they sign
The private power of attorney (PDF, PAdES) or the public one via e-Notariado; the RFB electronic power of attorney inside e-CAC. · The acts the mandate authorises, always in their own name and stating that they act under a power of attorney.
Where identity is validated
By video with our RA, from any country, or in person in London. · At any RA in Brazil, or with us by video, if they prefer to handle everything in one place.
Who answers for what was signed
For the terms of the mandate they granted. · For the acts they performed, within the powers received.
The case: a chef in Lyon and his sister in Belo Horizonte

Real case
Illustrative scenario. A Brazilian chef settled in Lyon rents out the flat he owns in Belo Horizonte and left his sister, an accountant in the city, in charge of everything. When a Federal Revenue notice and a lease renewal proposal landed in the same week, he suggested the shortcut that seemed obvious: “I'll get an e-CPF and send you the file and the password”. His sister refused — rightly. The correct route took two certificates: he validated his identity by video one morning in Lyon and, with his A1 e-CPF, signed a private power of attorney covering the property and granted, on e-CAC, the RFB electronic power of attorney for notices and tax returns. She, with the e-CPF she already used at her practice, logged into e-CAC in attorney mode, replied to the notice and signed the lease addendum as his representative. Neither of them touched the other's certificate. — A common scenario for owners of rented property in Brazil with a relative in the city
What the attorney-in-fact can do with their own e-CPF
e-CAC in attorney mode
With the RFB electronic power of attorney active, they select “act as attorney” and reach the released services: returns, notices, instalment plans, debt queries under the grantor's CPF.
Signing contracts and applications
They sign in their own name, stating the representation (“by power of attorney”), and attach the mandate to the document. Their ICP-Brasil signature carries the presumption of authorship; the mandate proves the powers.
Notary and Detran acts
With a mandate suited to the act — private or public, as the notary requires — they represent the grantor in transfers, annotations and registrations.
Company systems, when authorised
They may receive powers from the director for specific company acts — signing a contract, filing a document — without ever becoming the holder of the company's certificate.
What the attorney-in-fact cannot do — and why
Before you decide
“Brazilian hours don't fit my routine”
The grantor validates with us at a time agreed for their country; the attorney, if they wish, validates with an RA near home in Brazil. The two sides never need to be in the same session.
“My Brazilian ID has expired”
A valid Brazilian passport replaces an expired RG. If everything has expired, the consulate renews the passport; validation follows right after.
“What if my trusted person stops being trustworthy?”
Revoke the mandate: the RFB electronic one on e-CAC, the private one by notice, the public one by deed. Your certificate stays untouched — that is why you never shared it.
“Wouldn't it be cheaper to sort it out on a trip to Brazil?”
Airfare, days away and the notary's calendar cost more than an e-CPF that serves for one or three years for every mandate you will need.
Transparent pricing
This is the reference price of the grantor's e-CPF, which signs as many powers of attorney as needed throughout its validity. The attorney in Brazil uses the certificate they already have or obtains theirs with us by the same route.
A1 for one year or A3 for up to three years changes the figure; the exact quote arrives on WhatsApp.
