Is a digital certificate issued abroad valid in Brazil? Yes — here is the basis, myth by myth

The question almost always carries a fear behind it: “if I do the validation while living in another country, could the notary, the Revenue or the bank reject it?”. They cannot, and the reason is structural: a digital certificate issued abroad is valid in Brazil because the issuer is a Brazilian Certification Authority inside ICP-Brasil, and the place where you showed your ID to the camera is not written into the certificate. Below you'll find the legal basis, the five myths that most often stall decisions, and the route to issue yours without leaving where you are.

  • RA accredited to AC Certisign
  • Issued inside ICP-Brasil
  • Validation by video call
  • Service in Portuguese and English

⚠️ Important notice

This is not a government website. Certificado Digital Global is a Registration Authority accredited to the Certisign network, a brand of Kindness in Business Consulting Ltd (UK Company No. 10386293), serving clients from London. Issuance depends on identity validation, documentation and ICP-Brasil rules. Do not send CPF, passport or sensitive documents via WhatsApp or the initial form.

Limite

Não é site do governo. Emissão sujeita a validação de identidade, documentação e normas da ICP-Brasil.

The answer in three sentences

First: the certificate is not “issued abroad”. Our role, as a Registration Authority, is to confirm you are who you say you are; the issuing itself is done by AC Certisign, operating under ITI's Root CA in Brazil. Second: the file or token you receive is identical to that of anyone validated at an RA in São Paulo or Belém — same chain, same technical standards, same revocation list. Third: no Brazilian system asks where the video call took place, because that information simply isn't in the certificate.

ITI (Root CA)

Top of the chain. Accredits the Certification Authorities and publishes the rules they all follow.

AC Certisign

Issues the certificate once the RA confirms identity. Located in Brazil, always.

RA (us)

Validates your identity — by video, from the country where you live, or in person in London.

You

Receive the certificate and sign with the same legal force as anyone who obtained it in Brazil.

When the doubt becomes a real problem

Real case

Illustrative scenario. A Brazilian telecoms engineer has worked in Taipei for two years and closes, as an individual, a consulting contract with a regional carrier in Minas Gerais. He signs the PDF with an e-CPF validated by video from Taiwan. The carrier's legal department returns the contract with a note: “certificate obtained outside Brazil — please confirm validity”. He forwards the message to us. The reply we prepare for the legal team has two parts: the link to ITI's validator, which displays the full ICP-Brasil chain up to the Root CA, and the explanation that the RA only confirmed identity; issuing is AC Certisign's job. The contract is accepted the same day, with no new signature. — A common objection from legal departments that have never seen a certificate validated outside the country

Five myths still going around

How to prove validity to the recipient

When someone in Brazil raises the question, don't argue: submit the document to the official validator at validar.iti.gov.br. It displays the signatory's name and CPF, the date and time of signing, the certification chain up to the Root CA and a warning if the file was modified after signing. That report ends the conversation more effectively than any explanation. To understand what happens technically with each click, see how the digital certificate works for Brazilians abroad.

Before you decide

“What if the notary refuses anyway?”

Ask for the reason in writing. Notaries follow e-Notariado and CNJ rules, which accept the ICP-Brasil certificate regardless of where the holder lives. We help you draft the reply.

“Does the time difference get in the way?”

The session is booked in your local time. People in Asia or Oceania usually validate in their morning, which is the small hours in London — we organise the diary around that.

“My RG expired; my passport is valid. Is that enough?”

Yes. Any Brazilian photo ID within its validity meets the identity check. The passport is the most common among those living abroad.

“Is it worth it compared with a trip?”

A video validation fits in a lunch break and starts at €200. A trip to Brazil just for this rarely fits any budget or calendar.

Transparent pricing

From €200

The amount covers identity validation by video and issuing by AC Certisign — the same certificate you would get at a Brazilian RA, with no flight and no days off.

The final price varies with the model (A1 or A3) and the validity period chosen; we send the exact quote on WhatsApp.
